Gandhara Buddha
The Gandhara style of Buddhist art is here captured masterfully by well known Thai artist Udon Srihawong. An acrylic on canvas 16 inches by 14 inches by 1.75 inches deep. Each is an original signed by the artist and they vary very slightly. This contemporary depiction of the Buddha reflects the Mahayana tradition while strongly influenced by Roman art of the 2nd century CE. The symbol of enlightenment is displayed on the Buddha's forehead. Mr. Srihawong has received many prestigious art awards, including one for mural painting in temples. He attained a graduate degree in Fine Art from the Royal Thai School of Buddhist art. What is difficult to see on the web is the fine dusting of gold over the painting. Luminescent.
